Our History

Chandrans Poultry farm was started in the year 1983 as a Partnership concern of four brothers: Balachandran, Ravichandran, Jeyachandran and Udyachandran. The family was previously engaged in plant breeding and commercial seed production under the name Krishna seeds. Long sales cycles and prevailing drought conditions forced the family to seek alternate avenues for growth and they decided to enter into poultry farming. Chandrans Poultry farm was started initially as a Contract Broiler breeder operation for Pioneer Hatcheries. By 1986, Pioneer hatcheries developed their own breeding facilities and vacated the farm. For a short period of time, Chandrans poultry farm operated as Commercial Broiler farm with a batch size of about 3000 birds. At that time, this was the largest commercial broiler farm in the state of Tamilnadu. By 1988, Chandrans Poultry farm shifted to Deep litter commercial layer farming. In the next couple of years, the deep litter facility was slowly converted to cage system of about 50,000 layer birds capacity.

In 1991, the brothers underwent a family partition and the eldest of the brothers, P.K.Balachandran, took over Chandrans Poultry farm and reconstituted the company as a partnership comprising of members from his nuclear family. P.K.Balachandran, an B.Sc Agriculture graduate, implemented many scientific management techniques in the farm to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

At the time of takeover, Chandrans Poultry farm had a capacity of about 50,000 commercial layers. It was purchasing feed from other feedmills. Very soon, Chandrans Poultry farm set up its own feedmill for captive consumption. By 1993, Chandrans poultry farm commenced work on its second unit and by 1995, it had reached a capacity of 2,40,000 commercial layers. In the year 2000, Hitech poultry farm was set up with a capacity of 1,50,000 commercial layers. By year 2005, Chick and grower unit of Chandrans poultry farm was shifted to different premises for biosecurity reasons.

In 2008, Balaji P.B., son of Mr P.K.Balachandran joined the business. Balaji.P.B., is a Mechatronics engineering graduate with a post graduate degree in management. His entry into the business shifted the business into the next phase of growth and expansion.

By year 2009, Chandrans poultry farm reached a capacity of 3,00,000 birds. Expansion work also started in Hitech poultry farm and reached 3,00,000 birds capacity by 2010. A broiler breeding business, Kasthuri Breeding farm, was started in the year 2010. In 2012, an existing 23,000 capacity deeplitter Broiler breeder facility near Udumalpet was purchased by the family for its broiler breeding operations. By 2014, a 30,000 capacity Broiler breeder farm, Chandrans breeding farm (Unit 1) was set up in Pulimapatti Village. The year 2019 saw a spate of new facility additions to support the growth of Broiler breeding divisions: Chandrans feeds, Chandrans Breeding farm Unit 2 & Chandrans Breeder brooding and growing unit.
